Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Tigers went up against the Chapman Panthers on Wednesday. The Tigers started off with a huge penalty-shot save from goalie Allison Smith (La Crescenta, CA). Marisa Lipari (Sunnyvale, CA) was the first person to score in the first quarter, putting the Tigers ahead. Then, on a powerplay, Jillian Miller (Irvine, CA) deposits the first of five goals she made. After regathering during a timeout, the Tigers finished the first quarter strong with the dynamic duo of Marisa Lipari and Jillian Miller each scoring again. On a powerplay in the second quarter and in the third quarter, Jillian Miller finds the back of the net, keeping the Tigers right up with the Panthers.
The Panthers brought their game, but the Tigers dominated on defense and kept them from scoring for the rest of the second quarter. Abigail Anderson (Oak Park, CA) and Jillian Miller drew three exclusions each on the Panthers. To start the last quarter, Abigail Lavold (Tacoma, WA) won the sprint, giving the Tigers the first possession. In an exciting, back-and-forth quarter, Jillian Miller scored her fifth goal of the game, and Abigail Lavold found the perfect lob over the goalie's head to bring the Tiger's right up to the Panthers. Although the Tigers battled hard, they fell short to the Panthers by one point, with a final score of 9-8.
Morgan O'Connell led the Panthers with three goals.
