Los Angeles, CA — The Oxy men's soccer team began their SCIAC season with a conference matchup against the University of Chapman Panthers on Wednesday night.
Both teams were giving it their all in this matchup, leading to a 0-0 tie for most of the 1st half as both teams played solid defense to offset good offense. The first goal came from Chapman's Ryan Bridge, who freed himself of defenders and shot a strike into the net for the 1-0 lead just before the end of the half.
The Tigers fought back and continued to make strong attacks at the goal. In the 65th minute, Max Stanley was able to fire a pass over to Tyler Na-Nakornpanom, who promptly fired a shot in for the goal to tie the game at 1-1.
With both teams playing strong defense, it looked like that could be the final score of the game. However, Chapman was able to find the net after goalkeeper Owen Carter made an impressive save that deflected towards a Chapman player who kicked it in for the goal.
With only 15 minutes left in the game, the Tigers tightened their defense and kept stringing together solid passes in attempts to tie the game. In the 86th minute, Stanley and Na-Nakornpamon were at it again.
Joshua Hamlett made a nice pass to Stanley down the sideline and Stanley was able to set Na-Nakornpanom up with a nice pass. Na-Nakornpanom once again found the back of the net with an incredible header for the goal to tie the game at 2-2.
The game would end in a 2-2 tie to wrap up the Tigers first conference matchup of the year.
Next Game: The Oxy men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday September 17th at 11:00 AM at Pomona-Pitzer.
