Los Angeles, CA – This match begins the SCIAC journey for the Occidental women's soccer team. After a tough battle in the first half, Oxy's Grace Denny manages to find the back of the net right before halftime. Going into the second half, the Tigers are up one goal. Chapman came out hard in the second half to avenge themselves. This resulted in a goal by Lily Jose 10 minutes into the half to tie the game. The final result was a tie, 1-1.
Kara Overnell took advantage of her position on the field to continuously test the Chapamn keeper, allowing her to lead the Tigers in shots. Gigi Yamamoto also shined with her corner kick that allowed Denny's goal, giving her the assist of the match.
Chapman put pressure on the Tigers by creating many opportunities for themselves. Overall, the Panthers had 11 shots and 7 corner kicks. But Jose's shot on goal was the one to save the Panthers from a loss.
Oxy continues on to play Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Patterson field.
