Tigers Shutout Bethesda, 3-0

Box Score

Los Angeles, CA — Oxy's men's soccer team got the regular season started on the right note on Thursday afternoon against Bethesda University.

The hot weather didn't phase the Tigers as they started the game off strong, keeping the pressure on Bethesda with strong defense and good passes on offense. In just the 9th minute of the game, Sam Jenkins made a solid pass to Joey Schwartz who put a strong shot past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Oxy continued to press and got off multiple shot attempts while also holding Bethesda to no shot attempts in the 1st half of the game. Nearing the end of the 1st half, first year Tyler Na-Nakornpanom received a nice pass from Vicente Navarro and capped it off with a floater over the goalkeeper to increase the Tiger lead to 2-0.

The 2nd half of the game was more of the same as the Tigers kept up the energy. Before five minutes had passed in the half, Na-Nakornpanom created another opportunity to score by stealing the ball from a Bethesda player and making a quick sprint towards the goal. The Bethesda goalkeeper came up to attempt a save but Na-Nakornpanom got by him at the top of the box and put the ball in for the Tiger's third goal.

Oxy would go on to complete the shutout win 3-0. Oxy's goalkeeper Owen Carter had 4 saves, all coming in the 2nd half.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Labor Day (September 5th) against Berry at 10:00 AM.
