Los Angeles, CA – In their third SCIAC match of the season, the Tigers hosted the University of Redlands. After two early goals from the Bulldogs, Oxy came back in the second half hungry for a goal. And sure enough, Sophomore Gigi Yamamoto came through with a beautiful shot to the back of the net. While the Tigers continued to battle and pressure the Bulldogs for the remainder of the match, it was not enough to take the win. The final score was 2-1 for the Bulldogs.
Not only did Yamamoto make the only goal for the Tigers, she also took charge of the middle to create constant opportunities for herself. Her efforts show in her stats as she led the Tigers with the most shots of the game. Not far behind in shots was defender Clare Madden. Madden, along with first year Kylie Jones, were crucial attackers and defenders that kept the Bulldogs on their toes.
The Bulldogs came into the match with a hunger for a victory, which enabled them to gain an early lead. Tori Zielinski, assisted by Sami Salinas, had the first goal and Skylar Pogue, assisted by Alex Zerbel, had the second.
Occidental will continue their journey at home on Saturday, September 24 when they play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) at 4:00 p.m. on Patterson Field.
