Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's soccer team was in action at Jack Kemp Stadium against the CMS Stags on Saturday night.
As the game began the two teams were battling back and forth with each team making pushes towards the goal. Each team's defensive play was on display as the game was tied 0-0 through 20 minutes.
With 22 minutes left in the first half the Tigers were set up with a corner kick by Chirstian Corcoran. Corcoran passed a short kick to a teammate who quickly passed back to him, and Corcoran then fired a kick to Andrew Notter who kicked it with his right foot straight out of the air and into the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
With a 1-0 advantage, Oxy refused to let off the gas pedal and continued to put pressure on the CMS defenders. With about 12:30 left in the 1st half, the Tigers began a push downfield that led to Aiden Aley receiving the ball in the middle of the field near the Stag's goal.
Aley placed a nice pass that drew the CMS goalie out to try to get to the ball before a Tiger could get to it. However, Aley had put the pass in a perfect spot for Jake Foster to get to it just before the goalie and to be able to kick it right past the goalie and into the net to double the Tigers lead to 2-0.
The Stags would come out hungry in the 2nd half but Oxy was prepared to match their intensity. In the 50th minute of the game, CMS was able to find the goal for the first time and cut the Oxy lead to 2-1, but the Tigers would begin to bear down on defense and were able to hold on to the 2-1 victory.
The Tigers improved to 2-1-1 in SCIAC play with the win.
Next Game: Oxy will be home again on Wednesday, September 28th in a matchup against Caltech.
