Los Angeles, CA — Occidental's men's soccer team took on the Caltech Beavers at home on Wednesday, September 28th.
Both teams came out of the locker room ready to go with two goals being scored within the first 7 minutes of the game. The Tigers got on the board first in the 5th minute of the game as Aiden Aley was able to find the back of the net after a nice pass from Andrew Notter set him up.
The Beavers responded only a minute later and evened up the score at 1-1 on an impressive goal from distance that was placed perfectly in the upper right corner making it difficult to save. With both teams scoring in impressive fashions early, it appeared that there may be a lot of scoring in this game.
However both defenses kicked it into gear and headed into the half still at a 1-1 tie. Oxy only allowed one other shot on goal for the rest of the game, and Riley Nyhan was able to make the save.
In the 2nd half, the Tigers once again scored quickly out of the gates. With only just over six minutes off of the clock in the half, Joey Schwartz made a perfect cross that was placed over Marcus Chmielewski's shoulder.
Chmielewski proceeded to make a beautiful bicycle kick that flew by the Beaver goalie and into the net for the go-ahead goal. The Tigers would never look back after securing the 2-1 lead by playing solid defense and continuing to pressure the Beaver's defenders and goalie, as Oxy logged six total shots on goal for the game.
The Tigers improved their SCIAC record to 3-1-1.
Next Game: Oxy men's soccer will be in action this Sunday night as they travel to the University of La Verne to take on the Leopards at 7:00PM.
