Whitter, CA — On Saturday Oxy traveled to Whittier College for a fun and fast meet. Oxy had a fantastic meet, winning both the men's and women's meets. The final scores were 142-113 for the men and 216-64 for the women.
To launch into the meet, Oxy swept the 200 medley relays. On the women's side, Oxy's A and B relays came in first and second place! The A relay made up of Megan Chow, Julia Mayuzumi-Shiroishi, Candace Farling, and Changel Ng finished in a time of 1:53.90 winning the event followed by Oxy's B relay made up of Alison Wong, Florence Lo, Kamille Pellettieri, and Sophia Vitek placing second in a time of 1:55.02. On the men's side, Oxy's A relay came in first in a time of 1:38.28 made up of Matthew Spruance, Nate Pittroff, Josh Biggs, and Tommy Hoffman.
Leading Oxy through was the women's 200 freestyle in which Oxy took the first 4 places! In first was Emily Szopa in a time of 2:01.87 followed by Amanda George (2nd, 2:03.67), Chanel Ng (3rd, 2:04.20), Megan Chow (4th, 2:05.02), and Izzy Phung (7th, 2:16.80). This gave the Tigers a major lead early on in the meet.
Sticking with the 1-4 finishes, the Oxy women swept the first four places in the 100 backstroke as well. Leading the pack was Nathalie Kerrigan (1st, 1:02.16) followed by Caroline Agostini (2nd, 1:02.59), Alyssa Pfitzer Price (3rd, 1:05.34), and Alison Wong (4th, 1:06.39). The men followed in the women's footsteps taking first and second in the 100 back. Carter Park came in first in a time of 57.19 and was followed by teammate Will Thomas (2nd, 58.76).
Highlighting the distance events, Amanda George scored some major points for Oxy, winning the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:22.99. She was followed by her teammate Campbell Gilbert who placed 4th in a time of 5:57.66. On the men's side, Alex To swam a strong 500 freestyle to win the event for the Tigers in a time of 4:55.33. He was followed closely by teammates Vadim Fedutinov (3rd, 5:00.12), and Josh Spessert (4th, 5:01.55).
The women's team continued their domination by sweeping the first 3 places in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. In the 100 butterfly Megan Chow led Oxy to a win in a time of 1:01.05 followed by Kamille Pellettieri (2nd, 1:02.42), and Eloise Sundal (3rd, 1:08.34). In the 200 IM Sarah Radle held a commanding lead, winning the event in a time of 2:11.74 followed by Florence Lo (2nd, 2:18.56), and Emily Szopa (3rd, 2:21.87).
Wrapping up the meet, Oxy won both the men's and women's 200 freestyle relay securing those big points. The winning women's relay was made up of Emily Szopa, Nathalie Kerrigan, Chanel Ng, and Sophia Vitek and finished in a time of 1:41.40. The men's winning relay was made up of Compton French, Josh Biggs, Carter Park, and Tommy Hoffman and finished in a time of 1:28.86.
With SCIACS only a few weeks away the Tigers are looking good to swim fast and place well. Come out to the De Mandel Aquatic Center this Saturday at 10am as Oxy hosts their last home meet against Chapman University!! We will also be celebrating our seniors so come out and show some love!!
