Los Angeles, CA — Oxy women's soccer traveled to Pomona to face the Sagehens on Wednesday afternoon.Â
The Tigers came out ready to go in this one as Kyra Bethune had two shots right out of the gate that were just wide. Alessia Sachi followed Bethune's shots with a shot of her own but it was just out right.Â
Malia DeCastro forced the Pomona goalkeeper to make a save to preserve the tie game not even 15 minutes in with a shot on goal. Anna Fukushima also made the goalkeeper come up with a nice save with a strong shot on the goal.Â
Oxy goalie Ingrid Odmark also came up with two saves for the Tigers in the 1st half and the game would enter halftime with a score of 0-0.Â
Mia Steadman had a shot that was slightly too far right but had a chance of challenging the goalie to make a save early on in the 2nd half. Odmark handled two more saves for Oxy before Jordyn Tribus took a shot trying to break the tie but was just a bit high.Â
The scoring in this game would occur with less than 10 minutes to go in the match. Pomona was able to score first with only 5 minutes and 9 seconds left in the match to put pressure on the Tigers to even the score.Â
Oxy responded with shots from Clare Madden and Gigi Yamamoto that both needed to be saved by the Pomona defense to preserve their lead. With just over 2 minutes left in the game Oxy would find the equalizer when Madden would score the clutch goal for the Tigers on a pass from Yamamoto.Â
Pomona would get one last shot off but it did not need to be saved and the game would end with a 1-1 tie. Madden's big goal led to Oxy securing a tie and moving to 4-4-3 in SCIAC play, only 2 Conference Points away from fourth place CMS.Â
Oxy will look to end their season on a high note against Caltech on Saturday, October 28th at 11am.Â
