Los Angeles, CA — Oxy's women's soccer team was at home on Patterson Field for a SCIAC matchup against the Chapman University Panthers on Wednesday night.Â
Chapman came out ready to put pressure on Oxy, getting off two shots on goal early on but Ingrid Odmark made nice saves to keep the Panthers off of the board.
Oxy also started fast in this one scoring a goal on their first shot attempt of the game. Lauren Cassel took the ball from midfield and passed it to Maile Fukushima who took the ball and took a shot from outside of the penalty box that floated out of the goalie's reach and into the goal to give Oxy an early 1-0 lead over the Panthers.Â
Soon after the goal, Gigi Yamamoto got off a shot that would just miss going in as it hit the crossbar. With under ten minutes left in the half, Oxy was looking to pad their lead. Oxy first year standout Mia Steadman would provide the Tigers with that offense when Maile Fukushima would set her up with a pass that Steadman deposited into the back of the net to increase the lead to 2-0. This was Steadman's 8th goal of the season.Â
The Tigers continued to make it difficult for the Panthers on offense and they would lead 2-0 heading into the half. In the 2nd half, Oxy would continue to create shot opportunities for themselves looking to get their 3rd goal of the game.Â
They would break through the defense to score the 3rd goal when Maile Fukushima received assists from both Mia Steadman and Gigi Yamamoto and score her 2nd goal of the game. Oxy would lead 3-0 for the remainder of the contest and pick up their 3rd conference win of the season to improve to 3-2-2 in SCIAC play.Â
Oxy's goalie Ingrid Odmark totaled 4 saves in this game en route to the shutout win.
The Tigers will be in action at CMS on Wednesday, October 11th at 7pm.
