San Antonio, TX — Oxy's men's soccer continued their terrific play in the NCAA DIII Championships with a big win over Trinity University (TX).Â
The entire team came out on fire and ready to play with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen (Third Round) on the line as Oxy fired off 14 shots in the 1st half while not allowing Trinity to get off a shot until 21 minutes had gone by in the game.Â
The Tigers would get the scoring started in the 31st minute of the game when Andrew Notter, one of the team's leading goal scorers all season, received a pass from Vicente Navarro just outside of the penalty box and used his left leg to get off a beautiful shot past the outstretched arms of the Trinity goalkeeper to give Oxy a 1-0 lead.Â
Notter and the Tigers were not done, as only a few minutes later Kai Fiedelholtz would be led into the box with a pass and move his way closer to the goal before finding Notter right in front of the goal. Notter redirected the ball perfectly to score the Tigers' second goal of the game in only a matter of minutes as Oxy now led 2-0 and would take that lead into halftime.Â
The Tigers had no plans of slowing down and came out just as quick to start the second half. Just under three minutes into the half, Ethan Carr would find Marcus Chmielewski open and Chmielewski would do the rest as he deposited the ball into the net to extend the lead to 3-0.Â
Trinity would do their best to try to respond by scoring a goal of their own in the 54th minute of the game but Oxy's offensive prowess and defensive intensity would not allow them to get back into the game any further.Â
Oxy would score one final time in the 64th minute of the game when Christian Corcoran assisted Tyler Na-Nakornpanom for a goal to extend the Tiger lead back to 3 and make the score 4-1.
The Tigers were firing on all cylinders in this game, outshooting Trinity 27 to 11 and only allowing two shots on goal the entire game while Oxy had 10 shots on goal.Â
Oxy improves to 15-3-3 on the year and the team will look to use a week of practice to keep their momentum going into next weekend when they will face Amherst (15-2-3) on Sunday, November 18th at 8:00am PST looking to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA DIII Championships.
