Los Angeles, CA — Oxy's men's basketball team was in action on Saturday against Stanton University.
The game started off back and forth for the first 7 minutes as the teams traded baskets in the early going. With 11 minutes left in the first half, Henry Wilson hit a jumper for Oxy that extended the Tiger's lead to 14-9 at the time.Â
Oxy got on a roll as Bernard Cassidy and Jacob Hamermesh both made baskets on the team's next two possessions to increase Oxy's lead to 9 points. Oxy would go on a 18-0 run on offense, making good stops and putting together good offensive possessions to lead to easy baskets.
Stanton would find a little life at the end of the half, but the score would be 43-23 at the end of the 1st half. Stanton would come out and make the first two baskets of the 2nd half but Henry Wilson quickly responded with a 3 of his own.Â
Oxy's lead would get up to 23 points before Stanton would make a run to cut it down to 14 points by scoring 9 unanswered points. The Tigers did not panic and got back to playing their kind of basketball and put good offensive possessions together to get their lead back to 20 points.Â
Oxy ran away with this game by playing great defense and finding ways to get easy baskets as well as making three-pointers. The game would end with the Tigers in the lead by a score of 83-67.Â
Henry Wilson led Oxy with 20 points and 6 rebounds but 4 other Tigers also scored in double digits. Jacob Hamermesh had 15 points on 7-9 shooting from the field and Jacob Koretz and Nicky Clotfelter each scored 12 points. Aden Nolet scored 10 points on 50% shooting from the field.Â
Oxy will look to keep their strong start to the new season going as they play Southern California Leadership University Rhinos on Wednesday, November 15th, at 7pm in Rush Gym.Â
