Los Angeles, CA — Women's basketball got the win in their first regular season game of the year against Life Pacific.Â
The game started off close in the 1st quarter with both teams trading baskets. The quarter would come to a close with Oxy down 21-19. In the 2nd quarter, Oxy had a nice string of offensive possessions to take a lead.Â
Gabriela Etopio, Ainsley Shelsta and Dominique Cabading all made layups on three possessions in a row and Oxy led 31-26. Toni Thompson would eventually take over and score on three possessions in a row for Oxy as well.Â
The half would close with Cabading making three-pointers on back to back possessions and Oxy had a 47-37 lead going into halftime. Thompson and Cabading would continue to help Oxy maintain their lead in the 3rd quarter and the Oxy lead was 11 after three quarters.Â
Oxy would score 14 of their total 83 points in the 4th quarter and hold Life Pacific to 9 points in the 4th quarter to secure the win. Oxy would win by a score of 83-67 over a previously undefeated team.Â
Toni Thompson had an incredible game, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for a double double. Ainsley Shelsta nearly had a double double with 13 points and 8 rebounds and Dominique Cabading also scored in double digits for Oxy with 12 points.Â
The Tigers will next play on Sunday, November 19th, at 1pm against Southern California Leadership University.
