Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental men's basketball team continued to play strong basketball at home on Monday night against the West Coast Baptist Eagles.
Sloan Ireland helped get Oxy off to a hot start in the game as he made three baskets in the paint to start the game. Nicky Clotfelter and Jacob Hamermesh also scored a basket and Oxy had quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead.Â
The lead continued to grow as Oxy got good looks on offense. After a made basket by Bernard Cassidy, the Tiger lead had grown to 18 points with the score at 20-2. The Eagles would start to draw closer at different times in the 1st half but Oxy would lead 44-25 going into halftime.Â
The 2nd half would start with Oxy scoring nine unanswered points to get the lead up to 28 points. It started with a Nicky Clotfelter and Sloan Ireland made layups and ended with Jacob Koretz nailing a three-pointer and a layup.Â
The Tiger lead would remain at least 20 points for the rest of the game and Oxy would go on to win by a score of 89 to 59. Jacob Koretz led the way on offense with 17 points and Sloan Ireland was right behind him with 14 points.Â
Henry Wilson, Nicky Clotfelter and Bernard Cassidy all scored at least 10 points as well. Cassidy and Jacob Hamermesh tied for the team lead in rebounds with 9 each.Â
Clotfelter had a great all-around game also securing 7 rebounds and 5 assists to go along with his 10 points.Â
Oxy will now have over a week to prepare for the first SCIAC contest of the season which will come on the road against Chapman on Wednesday, November 29th at 7pm in Orange, CA.
