Oxy vs Caltech and Biola

Pasadena, CA — On Saturday, the Occidental men's and women's swimming and diving teams  traveled to Caltech for a fun meet against Caltech and Biola. The coaches of both teams decided to host the meet in the evening so as to prepare their swimmers for the upcoming SCIACs meet in February. With more training under their belts now, the Tigers had a fantastic showing on Saturday. 

Starting off strong with diving, Issac Bassett was a highlight for the diving team. He came in second place on the men's 3 meter with a score of 210.50, followed by teammate Matthew Avery (5th, 138.25). On the women's side, Clara Dearden led the pack in third place with a score of 213.50, followed by teammates Audra Baruch (4th, 210.35), Elsie Cady (5th, 209.10), and Violet Schultz (7th, 148.10). 

A few relay highlights to get the meet going include both the men's and women's A 200 medley relays. The men's relay consisted of Carter Park, Matthew Spruance, Hunter Hobbs, and Josh Biggs. They placed fifth for Oxy in a time of 1:38.07. The women's relay consisted of Marina Wang, Florence Lo, Katherine Munoz, and Nathalie Kerrigan, and placed third in a time of 1:52.00. 

Marina Wang and Izzy Phung rocked the women's 100 back, finishing second (1:00.27) and ninth (1:09.96). Matthew Spruance, Hunter Hobbs, and Vadim Fedutinov followed suit finishing sixth (57.53), seventh (58.08), and eighth (58.32) to round out the 100 backstroke. 

The Tigers' depth in sprint freestyle was shown clearly through this meet. Biggs, Alex To, and Compton French started off the pack in the 100 freestyle finishing second (47.86), sixth (49.42), and ninth (52.54). Wang led the women's side finishing third in a time of 55.93, followed by teammates Isabella Tanis (5th, 56.43), and Kerrigan (8th, 57.75). 

To round out the highlights Park led the 100 fly pack finishing second in a time of 54.15, followed by Spruance (7th, 54.98). On the women's side Katherine Munoz had a phenomenal swim winning the women's 100 butterfly in a time of 59.32, followed by Kamille Pellettieri (3rd, 1:01.55). Both women performed season best times in this event. 

Overall the Tigers had a great showing last weekend! Come out and support them at one of their home meets in the next few weeks.
