Box Score Claremont, CA – On Wednesday, February 22nd, Occidental College's lacrosse team traveled to Claremont for their first conference game against the Sagehens. Although the Tigers lost 22-0, they gained momentum in the second quarter, and eventually held Pomona-Pitzer to four goals in the third quarter and one goal in the fourth.
After a tough start, sophomore goalie, Andie Angelacci, took the field and made eight impressive saves. Three of those saves were against Pomona's star attacker, Shoshi Henderson, last year's Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Senior attacker, Cara Bekas, and first-year defender, Ellie Mahoney, joined the fight, leading the team in ground balls. Overall, the Tigers had nine shots, sixteen ground balls, ten caused turnovers, and eight draw controls.
Although the result favored the Sagehens, the Tigers are proud of their first-years who all made their college debuts on Wednesday and are looking forward to their first home game at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Redlands.
