The Tigers are on a roll! After a rainy win on Saturday, February 25th, the Tigers started March off with a 24-2 win against the California Lutheran University Regals. First-year midfielder, Olivia Okamoto, won the first draw control of the game and proceeded to have the game's first goal, giving the Tigers momentum early on. Later, Okamoto went on to have three more draw controls and three caused turnovers. Then, with only a minute and 24 seconds left in the first quarter, sophomore attacker, Gabriella Acker, scored off of a free position shot, making the score 9-1 Tigers.
Emma Cho, a sophomore attacker, carried the Tiger's energy into the second quarter, scoring her first goal of the game only 29 seconds into it. Her first goal, one of three, was assisted by junior attacker and captain, Halle Knuston, who ended the game with three goals and four assists. Once again, the final goal of the quarter was scored by Gabriella Acker with only a minute and 18 seconds left. This was Acker's second goal of her hat trick.
After half time and five goals in the third quarter, sophomore attacker, Ashley Fletcher, ended the quarter with her first collegiate goal assisted by junior attacker, Ariel Shweiki. Not only did this duo end the third quarter with a bang, but they also had the final connection of the game, giving Fletcher two goals. Overall, eleven Tigers scored tonight.
The game was truly a team effort. Senior attacker and captain Cara Bekas had three goals, Ariel Shweiki had an impressive five ground balls, and first-year midfielder, Ava Whelan, had four draw controls. Additionally, after only three games, first-year midfielder, Maeve Moylan, has eight career goals (four of which were scored during this game). She also had four draw controls against the Regals. She has already had a great impact on the field for the Tigers.
Ultimately, the team had 18 draw controls, 25 ground balls, and successfully completed all seven of their clears. The Tigers have started their season off strong with a total of 47 goals and 24 assists in just three games. Currently, the Tigers average 15.67 goals a game.
Lastly, the Tigers would like to thank their fans for coming out as there were a remarkable 176 people in attendance this evening. They hope people continue to cheer them on at their next home game on March 10th against Haverford College, who are traveling all the way from Pennsylvania to play the Tigers, or virtually this Saturday when the Tigers travel to play CMS. They wish they could take their favorite announcer, Jacob Hamermesh, with them to Claremont, California.
