Thousand Oaks, CA – On Saturday, April 15, the Tigers got another win on the road against the California Lutheran University Regals! Occidental had a fun time on the field in their second away game of the week. It was a joy to watch the Tigers' attack connect and celebrate their wins.
Overall, nine Tigers scored, which meant almost every midfielder and attacker on Occidental's team! The majority of players scored two goals: Halle Knutson, Olivia Okamoto, Maeve Moylan, Ashley Fletcher, and Ella Skoglund. However, leading the team in goals were sophomore attacker Gabriella Acker (4), junior midfielder and captain Bella Kwan (4), and sophomore attacker Emma Cho (5). It was so fun to watch these players create scoring plays on attack.
After a few missed goal attempts by the Tigers, sophomore attacker Gabriella Acker scored the first goal for Occidental in the sixth minute, giving them the momentum they needed. One of the goals scored by Halle Knutson, junior attacker and captain, was off of a redefend. Knutson intercepted the Regal's clearance attempt and had a fast break straight to goal. Her hussle was remarkable. After talking with Emma Cho, she admitted her favorite goal against the Regals was a leftie drive from the top of the eight meter. It was a textbook move!
Occidental's lacrosse team fought hard on the draw circle. The Tigers won 19 out of 31 draw controls. This game's draw team rotated between first-year midfielder Ava Whelan, first-year midfielder Olivia Okamoto, first-year midfielder Maeve Moylan, sophomore midfielder Ella Skoglund, and Bella Kwan. Kwan had one draw control, Whelan had three, Okamoto had four, and Moylan had six.
Going into the game, it was one of the Tigers' goals to fight hard for the 50/50 balls, and man, did they ever. The Tigers had 17 out of the 26 ground ball pick-ups. The top fighters for the Tigers were Ava Whelan (2), sophomore attacker Ashley Fletcher (2), and Maeve Moylan (4).
A special shoutout to first-year goalie Grace Morrow who had four saves in 15 minutes. Morrow had a 66% save percentage this game. Way to go Morrow!
While the Tigers enjoyed the bus rides together, they look forward to having two home games this week (4/19 and 4/22). So, if you missed Tigers lacrosse last week, do not fret! Come out to Jack Kemp stadium and cheer them on against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this Wednesday at 7:00pm.
