Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Women's Water Polo team matched up against CalTech on Wednesday. To kickstart the game, Abby Anderson (Thousand Oaks, CA) scored from center with the assist from Jillian Miller (Irvine, CA). Then, Kayla Lin (Palo Alto, CA) scored another goal from center with help from Ruby Vogel (San Mateo, CA). The Tigers fell behind towards the end of the first quarter and were down by three, but ended up tying the game up with three goals in a row in the second quarter. Vogel scored a nearside skip shot with help from Lin, then Norah Ruvalcaba (Moreno Valley, CA) beat the goalie over the head, with the assist awarded to Olivia Montgomery (Eugene, OR). Montgomery kept the energy up with a quick bar-in shot on a powerplay with help from Averylin Cummins (Chicago, IL). In the third quarter, Montgomery took another shot with assistance from Marisa Lipari (Sunnyvale, CA). As the fourth quarter came around, the Tigers were ramped up but still down by one goal. Miller scored two goals to put the Tigers in the lead. Both on powerplays and with assists from Koko Butcher (Honolulu, HI) and Lipari.
Defensively, the Tigers had eights steals, Butcher and Alex Moye (San Diego, CA) taking two each. The Tigers also drew six exclusions, with Anderson drawing half of them. Overall, the Tigers put great pressure on CalTech throughout the whole game. Final Score: 8-7 Oxy.
