Los Angeles, CA – After a week off, Oxy came out hot tonight against Providence Christian College. The Tigers took the tightly contested first set 25-20, but ultimately fell to the Sea Beggars 3-1 as the visitors took the next three sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-14).
The Tigers were led by Ariana Carranza, Skye Garcia, and Aniya Hawthorne. Carranza earned 12 kills, two blocks, and an ace. Garcia picked up 10 kills, an ace, and a block. Hawthorne improved her already high hitting percentage, pushing it to .538 with her seven kills. Hawthorne was successful at the net with two blocks and also served up an ace.
Setter Camille Thé and defensive specialist Leena Albelo managed the game flow and continuously set up the front row. Thé led with 20 assists, but also kept the team in the game with nine digs. Albelo had 12 assists and eight digs. Lizzy Kerman earned the most digs tonight at 13. Unfortunately, Elizabeth Sonza was out with an injury tonight, but hopefully will return to the court soon as her defensive skills were greatly missed.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they host UC Santa Cruz at 6:00 p.m.
