Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team faced their SCIAC opponent Whitter at the 2023 MPSF Invitational. The Tigers' offense dominated the Poets, starting off with two goals from Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) with the assists going to Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL) and Raul Rodriguez (Miami, FL). Then, Oliver Wilkins (Seattle, WA) scored two goals, one on a powerplay and one with the assist from Rodriguez. In the second quarter, Zane Derrod (San Diego, CA) beat the goalie with help from Jake Eulenhoefer. Then, Cawley converted a penalty shot for the Tigers. Eulenhoefer scored two goals next, leaving the Tigers on a good note before halftime. In the third quarter, the Tigers ramped up their offense with Wilkins scoring right off the bat with help from Eulenhoefer. Then, Tate Miller (San Anselmo, CA) found the back of the net. Guillaume added another for the Tigers followed by a goal from Ryan Tang, with the assist from Lars Schubert. Shortly after, Z. Derrod shot and scored on a powerplay with help from T. Miller. Then, with less than a minute left in the third, Danny Miller scored as well as Jack Davis (Livermore, CA) with help from T. Miller. The Tigers didn't stop there though, Z. Derrod converted another powerplay in the beginning of the fourth quarter with help from Hughes. Then, Tang found the right shot two more times with help from Hughes on one of them. Z. Derrod and D. Miller followed with one of the assists from Tang, then Davis beat the goalie again on a penalty shot. To finish off the game, D. Miller scored another goal with help from Tang, and then Tang scored with help from Rodriguez. On top of all the scoring, the Tigers drew seven exclusions and had eleven steals, with T. Miller and Eulenhoefer taking three each.
Brody Haney led the Poets with six goals.
