Oxy Leads First Half Against #2 UCLA

Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team faced UCLA in their first game of the 2023 MPSF Invitational this week. The Tigers held the lead of the game up until halftime against the team that's currently ranked second in the nation. Travis Hughes (Corte Madera, CA) scored first for the Tigers with help from Max Stone (San Diego, CA) on a powerplay. Then, on another powerplay, Tate Miller (San Anselmo, CA) scored with the pass from Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL). Shortly after, Stone found the back of the net with the assist awarded to Hughes. At the end of the first quarter, Jake Eulenhoefer beat the goalie on another powerplay with help from Hughes. In the second quarter, Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) scored a goal with help from Stone and then Zane Derrod (San Diego, CA) scored on a powerplay with the pass from Hughes. Towards the end of the first half, Cawley shot and scored on a penalty, putting the Tigers in the lead at 7-6 Oxy. In the third quarter the Tigers battled it out with the Bruins but were unable to find a goal. In the fourth quarter though, Ryan Tang fired a shot into the goal. To finish the game off, Eulenhoefer scored his second goal of the game with help from Lars Schubert on a powerplay. On defense, the Tigers drew nine exclusions and had seven steals. Final Score: 18-9 UCLA.

Grant Loth led the Bruins with three goals.
