Redlands, CA – On Tuesday, the women's volleyball team traveled to the University of Redlands for what ended up being a competitive five-set match. The Tigers took the first and fourth set, but unfortunately fell to the Bulldogs. The set scores were 27-25 Oxy, 25-23 UR, 25-21 UR, 25-23 Oxy, and 15-11 UR, for a 3-2 match breakdown.
In the first set, once the Tigers gained the lead they kept it until the very end where the match got very close with a set point on the line. Lizzy Kerman was able to get the final three kills to swing the overtime set into Oxy's favor, 27-25. In set two, the teams traded the lead a few times, eventually ending with the Bulldogs first win, 25-23. Hot off their set win, they continued their lead into the third set, but the Tigers rallied to keep the score close. In the fourth, the Tigers were quick to score off of an ace by Leena Albelo to start the set and were able to pull ahead by five points midway through. In the final set, the score stayed within two points until the Bulldogs snagged the win with a three kill streak.
Oxy was led by Kerman who racked up a season high of 19.5 points from 18 kills, an ace, and a block assist, as well as 17 digs for her first double-double of the season. Kerman was followed by Ariana Caranza and Aniya Hawthorne who each scored 14.5 points. Caranza had 11 kills, three aces, and one block assist, in addition to 15 digs for a double-double of her own for the fourth one of the season. Hawthorne had nine kills, one ace, and was a wall at the net with three solo blocks and three block assists. Elizabeth Sonza earned 15 digs on the back line. Leena Albelo and Camille Thé went 20 and 19 on assists, respectively.
