Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team wins their first game of the season against the La Verne Leopards on Saturday. Max Stone (San Diego, CA) was the first to score on a powerplay for the Tigers in the first thirty seconds of the game. Then, first years Jake Eulenhoefer, Zane Derrod, and Danny Miller shot and scored, with assists from Tate Miller (San Anselmo, CA) and Lars Schubert. To finish up the first quarter, Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) found his first two goals of the game with an assist from Schubert. In the second quarter, Guillaume kept the scoring streak up with two more goals with help from Miller and Z. Derrod. Shortly after, Aiden Cawley (Chicago, IL) beat the goalie twice with help from Travis Hughes (Corte Madera, CA). After regrouping during halftime, the Tigers kept their strong game up with Hughes scoring on a powerplay with help from Guillaume. Cawley found his third goal of the game on a penalty shot against the Leopards, then Eulenhoefer scored with the assist awarded to Cawley. Stone followed with another goal with help from goalie James Derrod (San Diego, CA). In the fourth quarter, Guillaume finished strong with two more goals with help from Miller and Hughes. Then, Z. Derrod fired another shot on a powerplay. Hughes added his second goal onto the scoresheet with the assist credited to Guillaume and on the next possession, Eulenhoefer shot and scored on a powerplay with help from Miller. To seal the win against the Leopards, Eulenhoefer scored his fourth goal of the game with forty seconds left. On defense the Tigers had sixteen steals, Z. Derrod is credited for four of them. The Tigers also drew ten exclusions against the Leopards. Final Score: 20-9 Oxy.
