Los Angeles, CA — The Oxy men's basketball team battled Colorado College to the very end in a Saturday night matchup.
Colorado College was able to get off to a strong start offensively as they took a 20-9 lead early on. The Tigers were eventually down 31-11 but Andrew Waldman started a offensive run for Oxy with a made layup. Waldman went on his own 6-0 offensive run.
Jacob Koretz broke out for a jumper and a made 3-pointer as well as Oxy was starting to build momentum on the offensive end. Micah Breaux closed out the quarter with two made shots and Oxy battled back into the game and had the lead down to 37-26 heading into halftime.
Colorado College was abe to maintain a double digit lead for the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half before Chase Miller got Oxy going with a made layup before Jacob Koretz got the lead down to single digits with his own made layup.
Oxy was making strong pushes to get the score back to even but Colorado College was making tough shots to keep the Tigers at bay for the moment. With 8 and a half minutes to go Oxy put together a 8-0 offensive run with Breaux, Koretz and Waldman leading the charge of scoring.
The score was 51-49 Colorado College with 6 minutes to go in the game. The teams began trading baskets until eventually Jacob Koretz knocked down a clutch 3-pointer to get the lead down from 6 and make it a 3-point game. Colorado College responded with a 3-pointer of their own and then made a jump shot after getting a stop as well.
The Tigers were pressed for time to complete the comeback and would end up falling just short of winning the game after battling back from 20 down to nearly taking the lead late in the 2nd half. The final score of the game was 67-58 Colorado College.
Oxy will play the Chapman University Panthers next on Wednesday, January 24th at 7pm in Rush Gym. Chapman is currently one game above the Tigers in the SCIAC standings, so be sure to come out to cheer Oxy on in an important SCIAC matchup.
