Tigers Win on the Road vs. La Verne

La Verne, CA — Men's basketball traveled to La Verne on Saturday afternoon looking to get back in the win column against the Leopards. 

Oxy got off to a strong start in the game with a fast 7-2 run that was capped off with two made layups from Nicky Clotfelter. Shortly after, Aiden Willaims knocked down a 3-pointer that gave Oxy a 12-5 lead with 14 minutes left in the 1st half. 

The Tiger lead got up to 8 points after a Ryan Hakl made layup but La Verne quickly responded with a 3-pointer on the next possession. Oxy was putting good offensive possessions together and playing strong defense to hold off La Verne, but the Leopards battled back to take a 1 point lead with 6 minutes remaining in the half.

Oxy quickly responded as Micah Breaux converted a 3-point play to take the lead right back. Another Williams 3-pointer gave Oxy a 5 point lead with 3 minutes to play in the 1st half, but La Verne would put together a run to go into halftime with a 41-39 lead. 

Oxy came out quick in the 2nd half as Breaux knocked down a 3-pointer and then Andrew Waldman made a layup to give the Tigers a 3 point lead. A few plays later, Aiden Williams was fouled on a made 3-pointer and converted the 4-point play that gave Oxy a 50-45 lead. 

A few plays later, Williams made another 3-pointer and the Oxy lead was quickly up to 8 points. A 3-point play converted by Andrew Waldman gave the Tigers a 12 point lead with 14:16 remaining in the game. La Verne was trying to put runs together but Oxy was doing a good job of consistently responding with made baskets. 

The Oxy lead swelled up to 17 points with a Nicky Clotfelter 3-point play with 10 minutes to play in the game. Aiden Williams then got the lead up to 20 with another made 3-pointer and after La Verne responded with a made basket, Clotfelter made a layup to get the lead back to 20. 

The Tigers would be able to keep La Verne at bay for the remainder of the game and go on to win the game by a score of 86-68. Andrew Waldman led Oxy in this one with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. 

Aiden Williams made 6 of 11 3-pointers to go on to score 24 points and Micah Breaux had a solid game with 12 points on 3 of 6 shooting while making all 5 of his free throw attempts. 

Nicky Clotfelter had 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting and also had 8 rebounds. Henry Wilson had 9 points and 6 rebounds in the game. 

The Tigers improve to 10-1 on the year and 3-1 in SCIAC play with the win. Oxy will look to defend home court against CMS on Wednesday, January 10th when the Stags visit Rush Gym.
