Los Angeles, CA— Oxy women's basketball team faced off against Bethesda University at home on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Tigers battled back and forth in the first quarter, being led offensively by Ainsley Shelsta who scored 11 of the 26 points in the quarter. Michelle Lagunas-Monroy scored the last Tiger basket of the 1st quarter to give Oxy a 26-19 lead.Â
Oxy would take a 12 points lead early on in the 2nd quarter when Ainsley Shelsta made a layup and shortly after Paige Yasukochi knocked down a 3-pointer that brought the score 36-23 in favor of the Tigers.Â
Bethesda rallied to get the lead down to 7 points, but Oxy responded by getting the ball in Shlesta's hands and she was able to score a layup that got the lead to 41-31 heading into halftime.Â
The Tigers maintained their 10 point lead into the 4th quarter after both teams scored 16 points in the 3rd. Ainsley Shelsta and Paige Yasukochi scored layups to start the 4th quarter that had Oxy up by 14.Â
After Dara Tokeshi made a 3-pointer and then a layup, the Oxy lead had gotten up to 18 points. Shelsta extended the lead to 20 with a layup and Yasukochi had the lead up to 22 with another made layup shortly after.Â
Oxy would go on to win by a score of 75-57 after winning the 4th quarter, 18-10. The Tigers secured their 19th win of the season and remained undefeated in non-conference play this year. Ainsley Shelsta finished the game with an impressive 33 points and 19 rebounds. Dara Tokeshi scored 19 points while shooting 60% from the field and making three 3-pointers.Â
Paige Yasukochi led Oxy with 5 assists and also scored 11 points and had 2 blocks. The Tigers' next game will be against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday, February 14th at 7:00PM in Rush Gymnasium.
