Los Angeles, CA— Occidental baseball hosted the Whitworth University Pirates for game 1 of a 3 game series on Friday afternoon.
The Pirates struck early for 3 runs in the 1st inning, and added 2 more runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 7-0 lead. Oxy got back a couple runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, when center fielder Lou Martineay singled through the right side and brought in Thomas Munch to score.
Jeffery Cambra followed with an RBI groundout that brought in Tommy Woods from 3rd base. The Pirates' pitchers were locating their pitches for most of the game and kept the Tigers creating a rally offensively.
Alex Nielson had a solid relief appearance for OXy with 2 scoreless innings while striking out 4 batters. The Pirates won the game by a score of 18-2. Oxy's record moves to 3-2 with the loss and they will look to bounce back in tomorrow's double header.
