Los Angeles, CA— The Tiger baseball team battled the Whitworth Pirates in game 3 of a 3 game series at Anderson Field on Saturday afternoon.
AJ Naha started the game on the mound for the Tigers and was keeping the Pirates' hitters off balance, allowing no hits over the first 3 innings of the game. Whitworth was able to break through in the 4th inning with a 2 out RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
Whitworth added 1 run in both the 5th and 6th innings, but Oxy cut into the lead in their half of the 6th when Jackson Short singled through the right side to score Sancho Llamas and make the score 3-1.
Christian Martinez came into the game for Oxy and pitched a solid 2.1 innings of relief while only allowing 1 earned run and striking out 3 batters. The Pirates won the game 6-1 as Whitworth pitching kept Oxy batters from stringing hits together to mount a comeback.
The Tigers will face off against the Southern California Leadership University Rhinos on Monday, February 19th at 2:30 PM in an exhibition.
