Jumps and Throws Dominate at PP All-Comers

Claremont, CA – The Occidental College track and field team delivered some standout performances at the annual Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet, demonstrating their skill and determination in the early stages of the season.  

On the women's side, sophomore Alexa Poremba impressed in the 100 meter dash, setting a new personal record with a time of 14.23.  The field events didn't disappoint with their performances.  Senior Rylee Cockett showcased her athleticism in the high jump, securing third place with a personal record clearance of 1.5 meters (4'11").  In the long jump, first year Amelia Weitz continued the PR trend by achieving a best mark of 4.92 meters (16'1.75").  In the throws, senior Kate Cobain launched a rocket of a throw, soaring into the triple digits with her two-foot personal record totaling 30.90 meters (101'4").

Meanwhile, the men's team also made their mark at the meet with some strong performances.  Junior Justin Edwards set a new personal record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.20.  Edwards was followed by first year Zachary McGraw, who had an impressive best time of 11.36.  In the hurdles, junior Harrison Williams continued to exhibit his technique by setting a new personal record of 16.26.  In the throws, newcomer thrower Darius Harvey, a sophomore, made a significant improvement in javelin with a toss of 34.13 meters (112'), a remarkable 17-foot improvement from the previous meet.  Junior Nico Morales found his way to 10th place in the javelin with a toss of 139', only two feet off of his personal best.  Additionally, first year Miles Manigault set a new personal best in the shot put with a distance of 9.47 meters (31'1"), while first year Luca Lennon and sophomore Evan Lieber achieved PRs in the discus throw, with distances of 25.33 meters (83'1") and 24.98 meters (81'11), respectively.

The collective achievement of the track and field teams exemplifies their dedication and work ethic.  The Tigers will continue to set high standards at future competitions, with the next track meet taking place on Saturday, February 24 in Claremont, CA, when CMS hosts the Rossi Relays.
