LOS ANGELES, Calif. –
Kayla Sepulveda was named SCIAC Women's Track & Field Newcomer of the Year on Friday, May 8.
Â
The first year was a standout across three throwing events, peaking as the second-place finisher in the shot put at the SCIAC Championships last weekend.
Â
Sepulveda competed across the shot put, discus and hammer throw, leading the team in each event. Over the last three weeks of the season, Sepulveda earned career-bests in each mark. Her 11.85 in the shot put is good enough for seventh all-time in Oxy program history. Her career-best in the hammer, which she set at La Verne on April 17, is Oxy's fifth-best mark.
Â
Sepulveda was one of 13 All-SCIAC honorees for the Tigers at the championships while both the men's and women's teams improved from a season ago, finishing in fourth.
