Los Angeles, CA— The Occidental Tigers were looking to secure a sweep of their double header against the Providence Christian College Sea Beggars after securing a game 1 win.Â
Providence once again got on the board first but this time Oxy was quick to respond. Garrett Palme had an RBI groundout before both Tommy Woods and Tyler Kubo were hit by pitches to force in two more runs in the inning and Oxy led 3-1 after one inning.Â
In the second inning, Jeffery Cambra led off with a double and Jackson Short brought him in with a single. Logan Rooney had an RBI groundout later in the inning and then Thomas Munch scored on a wild pitch to total three more runs for Oxy.Â
Oxy tacked on three more runs in the 4th inning highlighted by a 2 RBI single from Mason Olson. The Sea Beggars began to try to get back in the game when they hit a 3-run homer in the 5th to make the score 9-4.Â
Oxy immediately got one run back in the bottom of the 5th, however, and scored two more in the bottom of the 6th. The Tigers' AJ Naha would pitch a scoreless and hitless top of the 7th to secure the win for Oxy as the sun was setting and there was not enough light to finish a full 9 innings.Â
Oxy secured the sweep of the double header to start the new season off 2-0. They will next be in action on Friday, February 9h at 2:30 PM against La Sierra University at home on Anderson Field.Â
