Oster's 7 Scoreless Innings Lead Oxy to Win Over Bethesda

Los Angeles, CA— Oxy baseball was in action over spring break in a home matchup with Bethesda University of California on Tuesday afternoon.

The game started out as a pitcher's duel as Elias Oster looked sharp to start the game, allowing one hit through two innings. Oxy had a runner in scoring position after Alex Henderson singled and stole second base, but the BUC pitcher escaped the inning by getting a strikeout to end the 1st.

In the top of the 3rd inning Bethesda was threatening to score with two runners on and no on out. Oster would pick up a huge strikeout for out number one and then a fielder's choice left runners on first and third. Oster would induce a flyball out to end the threat with no runs scored.

Oster would then go on to strike out the side in the 4th, and Oxy would break through offensively by manufacturing a run in the bottom half of the inning. Alex Henderson walked and stole second base before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Jackson Short would hit a fly ball down the left field line that was caught but would bring in Henderson for the first run of the game.

The Tigers broke through for two more runs in the bottom of the 6th when Mason Olson had a clutch two out single that drove in Jackson Short and Logan Rooney. Meanwhile, Oster was remaining dominant on the mound. In the 7th inning, after a leadoff single, Oster induced the ground ball double play to get two quick outs and earned a fly out to end the inning.

Oxy would take advantage of a big error and walk to add on four runs in the 7th inning, but the Tigers would go on to win by a score of 7-1. Oster led Oxy to the win with his strong start on the mound, scattering 8 hits to allow no runs and strike out 5 batters.

The Tigers were led offensively by Mason Olson who went 2-4 at the plate and drove in 2 runs that extended the lead from 1-0 to 3-0 with two outs in the 6th inning.

Oxy will have a few days off of games before resuming SCIAC games against the La Verne Leopards on Friday, March 15th at 3pm at Anderson Field. Be sure to come out to support your Tigers!
