Tigers' Late Rallies Fall Short vs. MSU

Los Angeles, CA— The Tigers were in action for Game 2 of their 3 game series with Montclair State.

The Red Hawks were able to strike first in this game by scoring 2 in the 1st and 1 in the 2nd inning. Garrett Palme was able to respond for the Tigers by continuing to see the ball well and hitting his second home run in as many games for Oxy to make it 3-1.

In the 4th, an error and a walk put Tigers on 1st and 2nd with no one out. A sac bunt from Palme advanced the runners and Thomas Munch brought home Jeffery Cambra with a sac fly. In the 5th inning, Nick Gonzalez led off with a walk before Tyler Kubo moved him over to 3rd with a single. Lou Maritneau brought home Gonzalez with a sac fly to center and the score was 4-3.

MSU would strike for 9 runs in the top of the 6th inning, but Oxy's bats would get hot in the 7th. The Tigers scored 3 runs in the 7th inning, as Kubo reached with a single and Alex Henderson brought him home with a home run that hit the Anderson Field scoreboard in left center field. Jeffery Cambra followed with a line drive home run of his own that left the park in a hurry for back to back jacks.

Oxy would rally for 2 more runs in the 9th as Henderson hit his second homer of the day and Garrett Palme brought home Miles Capobianco with an RBI single, but the Red Hawks big offensive inning lead them to a 15-8 win.

Declan Sklut had a solid outing on the mound, striking out 7 batters over 5.1 innings while allowing 4 earned runs. Wilson Schwegler made his season debut for Oxy and looked sharp over 2 innings of work, allowing an earned run while striking out 2 batters.
