Leesburg, FL— Oxy softball was in action for Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Albertus Magnus College Falcons.
AMC grabbed the lead early after hitting a double and single to start the game and scoring the run on a throw to first by Zada Day-Adams. The Falcons got on the board for two more in the 3rd inning, utilizing a sac bunt and three singles.
Oxy would retaliate in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Sophia Siu led off with a triple to center field and was brought home on an RBI groundout to 2nd base by Alysha Wagner. Ava Quezada and Isabella Harding would hit back to back singles but would be stranded on base to end the 3rd.
Zada Day-Adams settled in on the mound and began to mow down the opposing hitters, retiring 9 straight batters in a row from the 4th to the 6th innings, while also striking out 4 batters in that span.
Phylicia Pedrosa would get an Oxy rally started in the 6th inning by leading off with a double to left center and Sophia Siu advanced Pedrosa to 3rd base with a groundout. Alysha Wagner would walk and be pinch ran for by Jordan Lebsock. Mia Mark hit a sac fly that advanced Lebsock to 2nd base, but Pedrosa remained at 3rd base until Ava Quezada came up clutch with a 2 RBI single to tie the game.
Isabella Harding would single to left to advance Quezada to 2nd base, and Evelyn Lorch would double to center field to score both runners and extend the Oxy lead to 5-3. In the top half of the 7th inning, the leadoff hitter would walk but Day-Adams would induce a double play from the next batter and get the last batter of the game to fly out to 2nd base to secure the 5-3 Oxy win.
Day-Adams totaled 7 innings, while only allowing 5 hits and 3 runs while striking out 9 batters. Sophia Siu, Ava Quezada, Isabella Harding and Evelyn Lorch all had 2 hits each at the plate for Oxy.
The Tigers will end their spring break trip to Florida with one last doubleheader on Thursday against Ithaca College and Monmouth College.
