Leesburg, FL— In Game 2 of a Monday Doubleheader, the Occidental Tigers were set to face off with Nichols College. Oxy would come out strong in the 1st inning, as Phylicia Pedrosa, Kaitlyn Suarez and Jordan Lebsock all walked to load the bases.
Isabella Harding singled to right center to drive in 2 runs. After Ava Quezada walked, a wild pitch brought in the Tigers' third run of the inning. Alysha Wagner singled to center field to score Isabella Harding from 3rd base.
Sam Palacio reached on a single to 2nd base before Sydney Crespo reached on a fielder's choice that Ava Quezada was out at home with the throw from the shortstop. Phylicia Pedrosa came to bat with the bases loaded and promptly singled to right field to score 2 more Tiger runs and total 6 runs for the inning.
Nichols got one run back in the 1st on a home run but Oxy's starting pitcher, Zada Day-Adams would bounce back immediately by striking out the side swinging in the 2nd inning. Day-Adams was pitching great for Oxy and did not allow another hit until the 6th inning.
Oxy would use a big offensive 1st inning and the pitching performance of Day-Adams to seal a 6-2 victory over Nichols College. In the game, Phylicia Pedrosa went 2-3 at the plate with a walk and 2 RBIs, and Isabella Harding went 1-3 with 2 RBIs.
Oxy drew 7 walks as a team in the game, showing great discipline at the plate. Sam Palacio made three great plays in right field for the Tigers to go along with Day-Adams' great pitching performance of 7 innings while allowing only three hits, 2 runs and striking out 7 batters.
Oxy would resume their trip on Wednesday against College of St. Scholastica.
