Leesburg, FL— The Tigers were in action against the College of St. Scholastica on Wednesday. Oxy kept their momentum going from their win over Nichols College by starting hot in the 1st inning.
Phylicia Pedrosa led off with a single to left field and advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball. Alsyha Wagner would deliver a clutch two-out single to left field to score Pedrosa. Ellery Mitchel drew a walk to load the bases and Ava Quezada had an RBI hit by pitch to score a run.
St. Scholastica would quickly jump out with a single and double to lead off their inning to get a run back, but Ellery Mitchel would bounce back and retire the next three batters. The Saints would tie the game in the 3rd with a two-out double but Oxy would respond with 4 runs in the 4th inning.
With two-outs, Pedrosa had a clutch 2 RBI single to center field and Sophia Siu followed with an RBI double to left field that scored Pedrosa. Jordan Lebsock would cap the inning off with an RBI triple that scored Siu from 2nd base.
Oxy tacked on another run in the 5th inning when Sam Palacio drove in Alysha Wagner with an RBI single. Ellery Mitchell retired 9 straight batters from the 4th through the 6th innings before Sam Alfaro came in to pitch a scoreless 7th inning, allowing only one hit and striking out the final batter of the game.
Oxy would win the game by a score of 13-2. The Tigers totaled 6 walks, 2 hit by pitches, and 13 hits on offense as a team, led by Phylicia Pedrosa who had 2 RBI doubles and a hit by pitch and Sam Palacio who had 2 hits in 3 at bats and drove in 2 runs.
Ava Quezada also had an RBI single in the game and Zada-Day Adams had a 2 RBI triple. Evelyn Lorch brought home Day-Adams with a single in the 7th inning, and Katie Plascensia hit a sacrifice fly that scored the Tigers 13th run.
Ellery Mitchell pitched a great game for Oxy, totaling 6 innings while only allowing 2 earned runs, 4 hits, walking no batters and striking out 1.
Oxy's second game of Wednesday's doubleheader would come against Albertus Magnus College.
