Los Angeles, CA – Despite falling behind early in a challenging matchup against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the Occidental women's lacrosse team showcased their resilience and determination, particularly in the second half.
The Athenas took control early, going on a six-goal scoring streak that put the Tigers on the back foot. However, Oxy's Dylan Herbert demonstrated composure and skill, notching a goal off of a free position shot to get the team on the scoreboard.
Heading into halftime with a significant deficit, the Tigers refused to back down. After regrouping and revitalizing their strategy, Oxy emerged for the second half with renewed vigor. They displayed a remarkable transformation, showing increased aggression, speed, and determination on both ends of the field.
In the third period, Oxy mounted spirited comebacks, scoring four goals to CMS's one. Olivia Okamoto and Halle Knutson led the charge with quick goals in the first five minutes, showcasing their offensive prowess. Maeve Moylan and Dylan Herbert also contributed to the scoring later in the period.
The Tigers continued to fight until the final whistle despite the Athenas' efforts to maintain control of the game. Although the scoreboard did not reflect their efforts, goalkeeper Andie Angelacci emerged as a defensive standout, making 11 crucial saves against CMS's relentless offensive pressure.
