Los Angeles, CA— The Tigers were in action on Saturday morning in Game 2 of the three game series against Pomona-Pitzer.Â
Christian Martinez was on the mound for Oxy and found himself in early trouble with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 1st inning. Martinez would come up with the huge strikeout to prevent the Sagehens from putting any runs on the board.Â
Martinez avoided more trouble on the base paths by striking out the last two batters with two runners on in the 2nd inning as well. The Sagehens would get on the board first in the 3rd inning with a solo home run and a two-run homer to make it 3-0 before striking for a total of 5 runs in the inning.
Sancho Llamas got Oxy going offensive in the 5th inning by launching a line drive homer over the left center field wall to make it 6-1. In the 6th inning the Tigers would get closer to the lead when Jackson Short would single up the middle to score a run and Nick Gonzalez executed a sacrifice bunt perfectly to score another run to make it 6-3.Â
The Sagehens would string together two more runs in the 7th to respond, and would go on to win 9-3. Sancho Llamas went 2-4 in this game for Oxy including his home run that drove in the first Tiger run of the game.Â
Aiden Alfers pitched a solid 2.2 innings in relief to close out the game for Oxy, allowing only 3 hits and one earned run. The Tigers began Game 3 of the series before rain would postpone the game until Monday afternoon.
