Oxy Takes Down Caltech in First Conference Game

3/7/2024 5:02:00 PM

Pasadena, CA — The Occidental Women's Water Polo team faced the CalTech Beavers for their first SCIAC matchup of the 2024 season. Bella Wilde (Eugene, OR) was the first to score for the Tigers on a powerplay with the pass from Cate Sloat (Austin, TX). Then, Koko Butcher (Honolulu, HI) drew an ejection and then scored off a quick pass to the post. After giving up two goals to the Beavers, the Tigers knew they needed to fight back. Butcher scored again on a powerplay with the perfect assist from Marisa Lipari (Sunnyvale, CA). Shortly after, Jillian Miller (Irvine, CA) found the back of the net with help from Emma Wilderman (Seal Beach, CA) on another powerplay. Ruby Vogel (San Mateo, CA) fired next on a counterattack goal with a short pass from Rebekah Harkins (Miami, FL). Then, to finish off the second quarter, Sloat scored two back-to-back goals with passes from Lipari and Schuyler Simon-Thomas (Berkeley, CA). During halftime the Tigers regrouped and kept their energy high. Butcher came out in the third quarter and scored two more goals, one with help from Lipari and the other on a powerplay. With fourteen seconds left in the third, Miller lobbed the ball from half court and scored. In the fourth, Miller shot and scored again on a powerplay with the assist awarded to Butcher. Then, Harkins added another goal for the Tigers with help from Thomas. On defense, the Tigers drew fourteen exclusions, with Norah Ruvalcaba (Moreno Valley, CA) and Butcher drawing three each.
