Claremont, CA – The Occidental softball team embarked on a competitive journey as they faced off against the formidable Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas in a captivating showdown. Traveling to Claremont, CA for the game, the Tigers displayed their trademark tenacity and skill, delivering an exhilarating performance on the diamond that almost upset the top-ranked Athenas on their home field.
In a game marked by strategic maneuvers and clutch plays, CMS seized an early advantage by scoring first in the third inning. However, the Tigers swiftly rallied, showcasing their resilience and determination. In a pivotal moment in the top of the fifth inning, Alysha Wagner ignited the Tigers' offense with a remarkable triple to right-center field, driving in Ava Quezada and notching a crucial RBI. Philycia Pedrosa further fueled the team's momentum with a well-placed single to center-field, bringing Wagner hom and propelling the Tigers into the lead!
The shift in the game was short lived as the Athenas immediately responded with equal determination, mounting a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to regain the lead. In a closely contested battle, the Athenas ultimately emerged victorious with a final score of 3-2.
