Strong Pitching and Hitting Leads Tigers to Win Over Poets

Whittier, CA— The Tigers traveled to Whittier for a doubleheader against the Poets on Saturday.

Oxy got things started quickly in game 1 of the day, as Jackson Short led off with a double and Garrett Palme moved him over with a single. Jeffery Cambra brought in Short with an RBI fielder's choice and Oxy was quickly up 1-0.

Alex Henderson would double to move Cambra to 3rd base and Ben Rutkin doubled them both home for a 2 RBI double and a 3-0 Tiger lead after the 1st inning. Whittier would respond by getting one run back in the bottom of the 1st inning to make it 3-1.

Oxy scored in the 3rd inning after Cambra led off with a single and was moved over by a single from Henderson and a sacrifice bunt from Ben Rutkin. Cambra would score on a sacrifice fly from Sancho Llamas and the lead was extended to 4-1.

In the top of the 4th inning a walk to Thomas Munch followed by an error and a wild pitch had Tigers on 2nd and 3rd. Garrett Palme delivered the sacrifice fly to score Munch and extend the lead to 5-1.

The Poets got one run back on a solo home run in the 6th inning that made the score 5-2. Oxy would respond and add an insurance run in the 8th inning on an RBI single from Jackson Short that scored Lou Martineau

The Tigers would go on to win game 2 of the series by a score of 6-2, led by First Year Christian Martinez who turned in a great outing by pitching 7 innings while only allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5 Poets.

AJ Naha shut the door by pitching the 8th and 9th innings, allowing no runs, no hits and only 1 walk. Jackson Short went 2 for 5 at the plate with a double and an RBI single, and Alex Henderson also had 2 hits in 4 at bats and scored a run for Oxy.
