Whittier, CA— The Occidental Tigers were in action for game 2 of a doubleheader against the Whittier Poets on Saturday afternoon.
Jeffery Cambra got Oxy off to a hot start again in this game by blasting a 2-run home run that scored Garrett Palme over the left center field wall. Whittier responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring 2 runs of their own to tie the game at 2.
The Poets took the lead by scoring 2 more runs in the 2nd inning and 1 run in both the 3rd and 4th innings to make the score 6-2. Oxy got a run back in the 5th inning when Nick Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3.
After Whittier hit a 2-run home run to make it 8-3, Oxy would respond with a big 6th inning. Sancho Llamas and Lou Martineau both reached via walk and Mason Olson then walked to load the bases.
Nick Gonzalez had an RBI walk that brought in Llamas and then Jackson Short walked to bring in Martineau and make it 8-5. A wild pitch brought in Olson from 3rd base and Miles Capobianco brought in Gonzalez from 3rd base with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Whittier would respond and score 3 runs in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to secure a 17-7 win.
The Tiger's next matchup comes with the CMS Stags on Friday, April 19th in Claremont.
