Claremont, CA— The Occidental baseball team traveled to Claremont to take on the CMS Stages in game 1 of their 3 game SCIAC series on Friday afternoon.Â
Claremont took the early lead by scoring 6 runs in the first inning, but Oxy got a run back in the 3rd inning with Lou Martineau bringing home Thomas Munch with an RBI single to right field to make it 6-1.Â
In the 5th inning, Garrett Palme got Oxy going again by launching a two-run home run over the right field wall to bring home Jackson Short and make the score 8-3 at the time. CMS would extend their lead to 10-3 in the bottom half of the inning, but Oxy would score in the top of the 6th when Ben Rutkin hit a 2-run single to center field to score Munch and Mason Olson.Â
Oxy would score again in the top of the 7th when Sancho Llamas was brought home on a sacrifice fly from Thomas Munch to get the score to 14-6. The Stags would secure a 16-6 win in game 1 of the series.
Lou Martineau was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI, and Mason Olson was also 2 for 3 in the game with a run scored. Thomas Munch scored 2 runs, had one hit and an RBI. Garrett Palme and Ben Rutkin each had 2 RBIs for Oxy.Â
The Tigers will battle the Stags in a doubleheader at Anderson Field to close their 3 game series on Saturday afternoon.
