Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Women's Water Polo team celebrated their last game of the 2024 season as well as Senior Day with a win against the CalTech Beavers. Seniors, and captains, Jillian Miller (Irvine, CA) and Marisa Lipari (Sunnyvale, CA) played in their last collegiate water polo game on Saturday morning, and were big contributors to the team's success. Miller was the first Tiger to score with help from Bella Wilde (Eugene, OR) on the first possession of the game. Then, Emma Wilderman (Seal Beach, CA) scored a beautiful backhand shot from center with help from Tori Carlson (La Verne, CA). Following shortly, Cate Sloat took a shot on a powerplay and scored with the assist going to Ruby Vogel (San Mateo, CA). Rebekah Harkins (Miami, FL) scored next, with help from Sloat. Going into the second quarter, Wilderman scored again with help from Carlson. Then, Miller converted a penalty shot to keep the Tigers in the game. As the Beavers started to creep up on offense, the Tigers didn't let that stop them. In the fourth quarter, Carlson scored a goal of her own on a powerplay, with help from Lipari. Then, Lipari and Carlson beat the goalie back-to-back. With nine seconds left in the game, Harkins redirected the ball into the cage with the pass from Lipari. The Tigers were winning by one goal until the Beavers scored with two seconds left in the game, leading the teams into overtime.
In overtime, Lipari fired a perfect shot on a five-meter penalty. Then, the winning goal came from Carlson who shot and scored on a powerplay with help from Harkins.
