Doubles and a Home Run vs CMS

Los Angeles, CA – In a thrilling doubleheader clash on Sunday, April 7, the Occidental softball team squared off against the formidable Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team in a rescheduled contest.  Despite displaying resilience and determination, the Tigers faced a pair of setbacks, succumbing to their rivals in hard-fought battles.

Game 1: Oxy 3 - CMS 5

The opening game saw both sides locked in a gripping battle for supremacy.  Oxy struck first, as Sophia Sui's sacrifice fly to right field ignited the scoreboard, driving in Alysha Wagner in a pivotal third-inning moment.  However, the Athenas swiftly countered, seizing control in the fourth inning with a pair of electrifying runs.

Yet, the Tigers refused to yield, mounting a spirited comeback bid.  Philycia Pedrosa's sharp single down the left line paved the way for Sui to dash home, narrowing the deficit.  With tension mounting, Sydney Crespo's clutch groundout in the seventh allowed Kaitlyn Suarez to cross the plate, injecting renewed hope into the Oxy faithful.

Despite the valiant efforts, the Tigers ultimately fell short, with CMS emerging victorious with a final tally of 5-3.  Notable performances included doubles hit by Evelyn Lorch, Sui, and Pedrosa.

Game 2: Oxy 2 - CMS 4

Undeterred by the earlier setback, Oxy entered the second encounter with unwavering resolve, determined to split the doubleheader.  In a seesaw battle, CMS seized an early lead with a run scored in the third inning, setting the stage for a captivating showdown.

Responding in sounding fashion, the Tigers unleashed a potent offensive barrage in the fourth inning.  Lorch ignited fireworks with a home run to center field, igniting a roar from the crowd as Jordan Lebsock dashed across home plate ahead of Lorch, propelling the Tigers into a 2-1 lead.

Oxy held onto the lead until the Athenas summoned their collective prowess, mounting a late-game surge that proved decisive.  With three runs scored in the seventh inning, CMS dashed Oxy's hopes of a comeback and sealed the 4-2 victory.
