Claremont, CA— Oxy softball traveled to Claremont, CA to take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday May 4th.
In the first game of the day, the Sagehens took an early lead by scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning. The Tigers had a base runner in the 4th inning after Alysha Wagner led off with a single to center field, but she would be stranded on base as the Pomona pitcher was able to limit the damage to one single in the inning.
The Tigers would get on the board in the 6th inning thanks to a leado ff double by Katilyn Suarez, immediately putting a runner in scoring position to start the inning. Sydney Crespo would lay down a beautifully executed sacrifice bunt to advance Suarez to 3rd base.
Suarez would come in to score on a sacrifice fly from Alysha Wagner to put Oxy on the board and make the score 4-1 in favor of Pomona. The Sagehens were able to respond by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 8-1.
Oxy would be able to get two singles from Evelyn Lorch and Jordan Lebsock in the top of the 7th, but Pomona would be able to record the last out of the game without a run coming in to score.
The Sagehens would take game 1 of the day by a score of 8-1. Ariel Lashinsky threw all 6 innings of the game for the Tigers, striking out 1 batter while only allowing one 1 walk. Oxy would look to bounce back in the second game later in the day.
