A selection of former men's and women's SCIAC basketball players traveled to Croatia and Slovenia for friendly competition against pro/semi-pro teams. Four Tigers were amongst the group representing the teams. 

The women's team was coached by our head women's basketball coach, Anahit Aladzhanyan, and featured two recent graduates - Gabriela Etopio '24 and Alyssa Ramlochan '21.  The men were coached by Mark Jensen, the head men's basketball coach at Whittier College, and Aiden Williams '24 represented Oxy on the men's squad.  Both teams competed well as the men went 4-0 and the women went 3-1.  

 

The trip combined business with pleasure as the teams experienced competing, sightseeing, bonding, and learning about the history and cultures of the region.  Additionally, because it is typically difficult for winter sport student-athletes to study abroad, this experience provided an abbreviated abroad opportunity for the student-athletes on the trip. Those seeking opportunities to play abroad also got a glimpse of the various levels of competition in the region and what they can expect to see by signing on to play abroad. Alyssa Ramlochan, for example, is in talks with a team in Denmark and may soon be heading back to Europe to compete.  She'll be the third former Oxy women's basketball player in the last couple decades to play professionally in Europe.
