LOS ANGELES — Occidental College edged Whittier College, 15-12, at De Mandel Aquatics Center, with Occidental securing a notable advantage in the fourth quarter.

Occidental started strong with three consecutive goals in the first quarter, including a goal by Travis Hughes, to take an early lead. The Poets responded in the second quarter with a four-goal run, highlighted by Brody Haney scoring twice, to shift the score to 4-3 in their favor. Occidental regained momentum in the third quarter, with Atticus Wahab-Holles and Zane Derrod contributing to a run that tied the game at 8-8. The fourth quarter saw both teams trading goals, but the Tigers managed to pull ahead in over time with a late goal by Jake Eulenhoefer, securing a 15-12 victory. Travis Hughes played a pivotal role, assisting on five of Occidental's goals.

Travis Hughes posted a remarkable seven assists, contributing significantly to the team's offensive setup. Wahab-Holles tallied two goals and added two assists, showcasing his ability to both score and facilitate. Derrod was efficient, converting all three of his shot attempts into goals. Eulenhoefer led the scoring with four goals on nine shots, demonstrating his accuracy and volume from the field.
