LOS ANGELES — Occidental College edged Whittier College, 15-12, at De Mandel Aquatics Center, with Occidental securing a notable advantage in the fourth quarter.
Occidental started strong with three consecutive goals in the first quarter, including a goal by
Travis Hughes, to take an early lead. The Poets responded in the second quarter with a four-goal run, highlighted by Brody Haney scoring twice, to shift the score to 4-3 in their favor. Occidental regained momentum in the third quarter, with
Atticus Wahab-Holles and
Zane Derrod contributing to a run that tied the game at 8-8. The fourth quarter saw both teams trading goals, but the Tigers managed to pull ahead in over time with a late goal by
Jake Eulenhoefer, securing a 15-12 victory.
