PASADENA, Calif. — Occidental secured a decisive 5-1 victory over Caltech on Wednesday at Caltech North Field. Occidental dominated the first half, scoring three goals and added two more in the second half. The team recorded 24 shots, with 12 on target, while Caltech managed just six shots throughout the match.
The first half saw Occidental take an early lead with a goal from
Maile Fukushima in the 7th minute, assisted by
Allison Bello. Shortly after,
Mia Steadman extended the advantage with another goal in the 10th minute, thanks to an assist by
Alessia Sacchi.
Occidental maintained offensive pressure, and
Zakrie Smith added to the lead with a goal in the 41st minute, assisted by
Sophia Weigt. The half closed with Occidental leading 3-0, showcasing effective teamwork and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
The second half began with Occidental holding a 3-1 lead. Caltech managed to reduce the deficit with a goal by Shyna Kashi, assisted by Alexa Baxter. However, Occidental quickly regained control.
Caroline Murdoch scored, assisted by
Jordyn Tribus, extending the lead to 4-1 at the 70th minute. Just two minutes later,
Kylie Meredith Jones, with assists from Steadman and Fukushima, further increased the advantage to 5-1.
Occidental maintained their pressure throughout the remainder of the half, generating multiple scoring opportunities, including a header by Fukushima and a shot by Sacchi that hit the crossbar. Caltech's defense held firm to prevent further scoring. The half concluded with Occidental securing a decisive 5-1 victory.

Occidental holds a record of 6-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in SCIAC play. The Beavers stand at 1-9-2 overall and 1-8-1 in conference competition.
